Catherine Black, an Associate Professor of French,
recently arrived at Simon Fraser University (British Columbia), and has been
teaching for 20 years in two other Canadian universities (the University of
Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University). She has been awarded multiple
teaching and leadership awards. For several years, she was a Faculty
Associate for Instructional Development and a mentor for new faculty
members. In this capacity, she has advised, in dozens of workshops, many new
and more senior colleagues, as well as future instructors (PHD and MA
candidates) on pedagogy, course design, and innovative teaching approaches.
She is also the co-author of two textbooks, and has presented her research,
which focuses on innovative teaching approaches designed to motivate
students, at many national and international conferences.
